A site with an important heritage

In the Champagne wetlands,
water lies in the least depression, from the discreet
rut or forest pool, the pond, the gravel pit, up to
the large lakes -, whilst also snaking between meadows,
cultivated land and forests as streams and rivers. Lying
about twenty kilometres to the East of Troyes, the Forêt
d'Orient Regional Nature Park shelters all this
aquatic wealth.
|
The important changes for the landscape
and men, generated by the start of the creation of the
lakes in 1966 (Lac d'Orient), then 1990
(Lac du Temple and lac Amance), flooding forests, meadows
and ponds, had straightaway reinforced the attractiveness
of the site for birds, ornithologists, hikers and fans
of nautical leisure activities. However, the ecological
interest does not limit itself to the birds and the large
lakes. |

Amongst
the wild host, the mammals figure notably (bats, cervids,
wild cats...), as well as the amphibians (yellow
bellied toads, speckled salamander, newts...), and
the fishes, without forgetting of course some botanical
jewels (bell flowers, winter horsehair, orchids). To
discover this wealth, read about our open-air facilities
(educational trails in the forests, the Salamanders
discovery trail, the animal park, observatories)
and participate in the outings accompanied by the natural
history guides of Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park.
